The web page of the ABPress based in Oxford and Sibiu, soon open for business: muses and misspells on its books. Randomly decrepit, stiff joints, possibly neo-bankrupt: so out of touch it needs help, but so analogue it cannot be helped. Nonetheless temperamentally enthusiastic, moderately irascible.
Ring Lardner ranks alongside A. J. Liebling as the greatest sports writer of the twentieth century. This epistolary novel is written in the vernacular of its hero, a bush-league baseball player writing letters to a friend at home. It unmasks the world of baseball, although it was written before the great Black Sox Scandal of 1919 changed the image of the sport.
